Another non-riding riding day. Four of us this time. Nada, Ron, Gary & me. We had passed through Killorglin a couple of times in the past week and thought it might be worthy of further exploration. Half the fun is finding the backroads to get there and back. Another hot and sunny day, so we were out by about 9:30.

We started out riding just north of the main N72 west of Killarney.  This took us by a cemetery and old church with the best views of Lough Leane (Lower Lake), the hills of Killarney National Park and Macgillycuddy’s Reeks.

We made our way to Milltown, where a local directed us to an obscure little coffee shop that served the best coffees, hot chocolates and scones of the trip. We also had a great, long and educational conversation with some Baptist missionaries from South Africa and England who were currently working in Ireland and the Ukraine, respectively.  The gentleman who is working in the Ukraine is married to a Ukrainian woman who is writing a book to be called “Bible in the Beehive”.  I think it would be a very good read if it gets published.

Then over hill and dale and onwards to Killorglin. We went to the visitor centre, had lunch at a restaurant/bar, people-watched for a while and took a stroll to Killorglin’s Metal Bridge.

And then a lovely ride home via a different set of back roads. I didn’t stop to take any pictures of Beaufort, but it was a really pretty little town.

It was a very pleasant day. An easy ride and lots of time to explore off the bike.
