Dave dropped us off in Killarney. We visited one pub for drinks and another for dinner. Four of us took in a harp performance at the church before meeting up with the others at yet another pub before finally heading home. I suppose it really is a shame to be in Ireland and not like beer. Oh well - I'm happy to go along for the ride......BTW - I've never really heard a harp being played before. Very nice; the harper was very good - both playing and singing!

Wednesday May 23
This was a planned non-biking day, and we're glad it was. Cool and a bit of rain for most of the day. We had been thinking of taking the train into Cork, but we got a better offer. Dave, our driver, drove us there in his van and was at our service for the day - all for a reasonable price. In the end we didn't actually make it in to Cork, but visited the Jameson distillery in Midleton, then had lunch by the water at The Quays restaurant in Cobh (pronounced Cove). We visited the Cobh Heritage Centre and a few other sites before heading home. I found the Heritage Centre very interesting and could have spent a few more hours there in order to see everything. Some of Cobh’s claims to fame: a major harbour of emigration over the centuries, the last port of call for the Titanic before heading to New York on its maiden voyage, and proximity to the sinking of the Lusitania. A more exhausting day, me-thinks, than spending six hours on the bike!
